Mike Bohn

Current occupation?
Beverage Manager at BDC Certified Partner, Angel’s Envy

What’s Mike Bohn’s elevator pitch bio?
From very humble beginnings behind the bar at the Olive Garden 18 years ago to running massive midtown NYC hotel bar programs to building the bar program at Olmsted NYC, I'd like to say that I've seen it all, but I know that tomorrow will always bring variety. Louisville is my home now and I lead a phenomenal team at the Angel’s Envy Distillery’s Finishing Room Bar.

Favorite drinks?
Water. Coffee. Beer. Daiquiri. Negroni.

What’s your favorite spot and/or time to drink?
Cracking open a beer when I get home from work.

How do you live a healthy BDC lifestyle?
Pickup soccer, trying to find time to go to the gym, and hikes with my pups.

What are some of your personal mindful, better drinking habits or guidelines you live by or try to live by?
I know my limit and never get drunk. Because hangovers really do suck. Especially the older you get.

Describe a favorite (or not so favorite) memory that is forever tied to a specific drink or experience.
Enjoying a number of phenomenal Burgundy wines with Confrérie des Chevaliers de Tastevin at a private event in NYC. I'd never before been in the presence of such an extensive collection of Burgundy, both red and white. It was truly memorable.

If you had no obligations, what’s your ideal “day off?”
With no obligations, who knows? The sky's the limit!

What do your mornings or evenings look like? Tell us about your routines and how they set you up for a positive day.
Mornings involve coffee and The West Wing for some political optimism. Evenings involve a beer and a recorded soccer game. Simplicity is key.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever had a drink?
Having some interesting homemade baijiu-esque stuff in the Chinese countryside near Lijiang. Can't say that I enjoyed it, but it certainly was interesting.

In a sentence or two, why do you support and live a BDC lifestyle?
Making conscious decisions about your drinking habits affects so much of your lifestyle. If you want to go out and hammered on a consistent basis, fine, but your lifestyle and well-being will suffer. I choose my health and clarity of thought over that extra drink or that offered shot. It's easy for me to say no thanks because I know that it will affect me negatively and that's not something in which I want to invest.

Who should we grab a drink with next?
Alex Staub, at Angel’s Envy.

Hey, Alex! We’re coming for ya’! ;)
